After I pulled these out of the oven, let them cool, cut them into four, and took my first bite I had a vision. I imagined Ben, Sam, Will, and myself sitting around our kitchen table on a busy Fall morning eating these bars, sipping hot hazelnut coffee, and discussing what we were each going to do that day. Lots of silly fantasy thoughts go through my head everyday. This time every year I look back on my childhood and how excited I would get thinking about the upcoming holiday season. Every year since Will was born Ben and I have forced him to watch the exact same set of holiday cartoons we watched as children in hopes they will elicit the same feelings in him they did for us when we were little. We did the same thing to Sam.
This year Will fell in love with the Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin cartoon. He’s memorized it and now I’m sick to death of it! He wants to watch it every single morning over and over again! I suppose I can only blame myself. But, it’s making me reconsider the rest of the retro holiday cartoons. How many times do I really want to watch or listen to the Peanuts Gang act out the nativity? I’m really going to have to mull this one over before we pull the trigger on Charlie Brown Christmas, The Grinch, and Frosty this year.
