My Mom sold AVON for a couple of years back when I was in grade school. Her idea to sell AVON may have started out as a way to make a little extra money. But, like me, my parents are horrible at selling to people. We don’t like to bother anyone and we end up screwing ourselves in the process of trying not to screw anyone else.
My mother would never call anyone to see if they needed any products. Her handful of customers would have to call her to place their orders. My mother and I also happen to be master procrastinators. Her customers would end up picking up their orders from our house because my mother would have a hard time getting their perfume and cosmetics to them very soon after it arrived at our house. I don’t think they minded because people love to be around my Mom. Women would come over to get their shampoo and end up spending the afternoon talking, laughing, and gossiping about the neighbors.
One thing she didn’t mind doing was assembling people’s orders and stuffing them in the, provided, little white lunch bags. I loved helping her with this because each of the order packed boxes came with free samples of tiny lip sticks and perfumes.
She always let me play with the samples. She never gets upset when things get messy out of place. My Mom can make the most mundane activities seem like a blast just being there and adding her two cents to them.
Occasionally our family would run out of milk (I think we went through about 2 gallons a day!) so we wouldn’t have anything to put on cold cereal in the morning. When this happened my Mom would sometimes make us oatmeal. Most kids would cringe over the thought of a huge bowl of mush over cold cereal for breakfast, but not us. My Mom would top our hot cereal with a generous handful of chocolate chips. The hot oatmeal would melt them and the mush was transformed into a little bowl of chocolate bliss!

It’s what gave me this oatmeal idea. I didn’t use nearly the amount of chocolate as back then. But, I’ve learned that a little can go a long way when it comes to rich ingredients. My mother has been a huge influence on me when it comes to my love of food.
I can’t wait to try this-it looks so good. I love you so much! You always seem to make me look like a fantastic mother!
You ARE a fantastic mother!!! I Love You Too!
Thank You! And thanks for stopping by!
