I feel odd posting about frozen yogurt today because it’s rainy right now. But, when I made this ice cream it was a gorgeous day!
When I was ~20 I worked at a Baskin-Robbins. It was a harder job than I expected it to be. The ice cream is frozen hard and it’s surprisingly hard to scoop especially when you have to scoop it over and over again over a 6 to 8 hour period of time.
When it was warm out I knew we were going to be super busy, I expected it, and the shift would go by quickly as my head bobbed up and down over the glass separating me from the growing line of customers.
On cold rainy days, though, I would feel red hot anger toward any customers!
I would wake up on a grey sky morning thinking, “Today will be a nice quiet day at work. I’ll be able to goof around with my coworkers and it will be relaxing for a change.”
So when a line would begin to form on a day the streets were wet with cold rain a crowd of customers would actually piss me off!
I always wondered, and still do, why anyone would say to themselves, “Since it’s so crappy and frosty outside lets go get some freezing cold sugary cream!” How about a nice cinnamon roll fresh from the oven or a Krispy crème doughnut fresh from the scalding hot fryer!
Eating ice cream on a blustery day is like eating a heavy meat and cheese packed lasagna fresh from a 400° oven on a 95° day in late July. Or how about sitting around a picnic table holding a 20 pound roast turkey, and a giant bowl of steaming hot garlic mashed potatoes slathered with butter and turkey gravy on a sweltering hot 4th of July.
Since it is still August though, it must be warm outside for someone somewhere. This frozen yogurt is sweet, smooth, creamy, and soooo…. easy to make! If you want to make it ahead of time you can freeze it for up to a week. Just take it out of the freezer about 15 or 20 minutes ahead of time so it will soften up a bit and be easier to scoop. Or you can throw it in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds.
