{chocolate angel food protein cake}
I made this protein cake last weekend and I will probably post a recipe for it this coming weekend.
I was reminded today of something I need to remember to tell people when I post these recipes.
At this point in my prep any food that’s remotely sweet (even artificially sweet) tastes REALLY good to me!
It’s because I haven’t had any “real” sweets in months. I’ve had protein bars, Halo Top, artificiality sweetened protein powder, and “sweets” made with artificially sweetened protein powder.
If you’re used to eating a lot of actual sugar these recipes are not going to taste like “real” sugar sweets. The angel food protein cake pictured above isn’t going to taste exactly like, or have the same texture as, real angel food cake.
The protein waffles I make are not going to taste like the light and crisp waffles you’re used to.
Halo Top does not taste like Ben and Jerry’s. Quest cookie dough protein bars do not taste like Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Chocolate protein powder shakes do not taste like a Chocolate Xtreme Blizzard Treat from Dairy Queen.
But if you take them for exactly what they are then they’re not bad. And, depending on your diet and what you’re used to, they can be just as satisfying.
Just so you know, they don’t satisfy the compulsion to overeat either. I could easily eat like 3 or 10 of these cakes! But, they’re kind of a pain in the ass to make. So I make one and I’m done.
Although, I still have to have internal mental discussions with myself about not going to the pantry for something else sweet.
It’s a daily struggle and probably always will be. Some days are harder than others. Right now I’m sort of enjoying the struggle.
