From about 6thto 9th, maybe 10th, grade I was a total mall rat. If I was not in school or ballet class, I wanted to be “hanging” with my friends at the mall. A trip to the mall with friends included: trying on prom dresses we were not old enough to properly fit into, boy watching, and of course junk food eating at the food court. I am not entirely sure if the Mrs. Powell’s I am writing about today is the same Mrs. Powell’s we frequented at the mall back then. But I do know that their cinnamon rolls are similarly wonderful! And huge! I remember, back in my teen days, a friend and I could easily share one of them and be totally stuffed. Although we would always fight over the rich, gooey, chewy, coveted center of their cinnamon rolls. The very center was, and is still, my favorite part of a cinnamon roll.
I am a huge fan of dense chewy roll dough. You can keep your light and fluffy when it comes to baked sweet rolls. I want a roll that sticks to my ribs! The baked treats at Mrs. Powell’s have, in my opinion, the perfect texture and sweetness. They are beautiful to look at too. Another quality I look for in a roll, cinnamon or otherwise, is a nice thick icing. I lean toward a cupcake frosting consistency and loathe the thin translucent drizzle. But the icing at Mrs. Powell’s sits perfectly in between. They slather their cinnamon rolls in a nice thick glaze.
This particular location offers way more than just cinnamon rolls. As you can see from the menu, I included, they offer bread, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and sides as well. Presently, I have only had the chance to sample their sweet stuff. But, if their baked goods are any indication of what the rest of their food is like I will be going back for more!
I could not find a blog or website for Mrs. Powell’s to inquire about their history, or franchise affiliation. But I did find this catering webpage with a little information, and they are on Facebook.
