On my way to work today I was thinking about common life experiences that make us empathetic toward each other. Things like being a parent, going through divorce, experiencing the death of a loved one, and losing a family pet.
Sometimes, even if you haven’t experienced a particular event, you can relate on another level. For example, maybe you haven’t been through a divorce but you’ve been through a devastating breakup. Maybe you haven’t been a parent but you’ve been a care giver.
All of this, I understand. My life experiences have taught me a lot. It’s one of the reasons I have a hard time writing anything controversial on this blog. I’m more passionate about not hurting people. In thirty-eight years I’ve come full circle on many issues.
Every time I learn a new life lesson I think of all the people who’ve been through the same thing and hopefully I wasn’t cold to them when they were going through it.
I hope I never, as long as I live, understand people who purposefully hurt other people.
Even on a miniature level.
Anyway, here is some morning comfort that’s warm and also good for your body. Oven baked steel cut oats are my new favorite!
