Including this cake, I’ve only baked a birthday cake for Sam twice in 18 years! The first cake was a Tigger (Disney Character) cake on his 1st birthday.
A couple of days before his Birthday this year I decided to bake him one. I asked him what kind of cake he wanted. He said he’d like a German Chocolate Cake.
I’d never made a German Chocolate Cake. But, I’d eaten plenty of this type of cake because German Chocolate Cake just happens to be my Dad’s favorite cake.
I consulted Pinterest to find the best German chocolate cake recipe. The first pin I ran into titled, “the best German chocolate cake recipe” I thought looked pretty great. I followed the link to David Lebovitz Blog. I immediately knew this cake would be special. David Lebovitz is a famous food blogger, cookbook author, cook and baker.
The recipe looked daunting and labor intensive. But I couldn’t resist the challenge because every ingredient in the recipe was so deliberate and decadent. It couldn’t be anything less than fantastic!Although it was time consuming and required patience the recipe was easy to follow and didn’t require any exotic ingredients. Everybody loved it!
When people describe scratch made cake as being better than boxed this is cake is the perfect example!
It was worth every dirty dish!Famous food bloggers are celebrities. I often try to imagine what daily life is like for my favorite celebrities.
It’s Sunday afternoon. David Lebovitz lives in Paris. So whenever I think about him I imagine him sitting outside (in springtime) a French Coffee Bar sipping an espresso paired with a slightly sweet crusty roll. I picture the table strewn with a local newspaper, and a black hard bound note book full of recipes, and recipe ideas.
Regardless of how David spends his Sunday mornings I appreciate that he thinks about food a lot! Thank you so much (David Lebovitz) for the time, thoughts, and energy you put into this incredible cake!
And, Happy Birthday Sam! May you have the fortune to turn your passions into what sustains your life!
lawdy! I love German Chocolate Cake as well……it looks so good!
Thanks sister. I always thought it was just Dad. But, you too!
